Who We Are
Grieve Hardware is known as a trusted, neighborhood favorite in the Kettering, Oakwood, and Dayton area. Striving to provide over-the-top service and a convenient home-project provider for residents of Dayton and surrounding areas
Greive Hardware was founded by World War II veteran Jim Greive, in 1955. While Mr. Greive pursued his passion in hardware, his wife, Peggy, and daughter, Sue, assisted with the family business. While Sue attended the University of Dayton she helped out as much as she could, becoming a trusted advisor within the business and community. In 1991 it became time for Mr. Greive to retire, the business fell into the hands of his daughter, Sue Eckert (Greive).
Knowing that the business world was ever-changing, Mrs. Eckert strived to keep the company as up-to-date as possible while maintaining an old-school environment. Nine years after Mrs. Eckert took over, the larger, Stroop location opened for business with manager Dan Beck. The two stores worked harmoniously, providing Dayton and surrounding area with a go-to home-improvement store. With Mrs. Eckert’s retirement in 2024, ownership shifted to Miamisburg residents, Emily and Steve Columbus.
“We recognized how much the community loved and needed a convenient neighborhood hardware store like Grieve. My wife and I have always had an appreciation for small, family owned businesses because my family has owned and operated small businesses in the Pennsylvania and Ohio area since before I was born. But ultimately, owning a business has aways been a goal for my wife and I. Owning a hardware store truly seemed like a perfect fit for the two of us and we are incredibly excited to be a part of Greive’s history and hope to make more history in the many years to come” said owner, Steve Columbus.
